The Westside Modernist Residence

The Westside Modernist Residence- Living Room and Home Office

The Westside Modernist Residence is a complete remodel of an Upper West Side apartment, thoughtfully reimagined through a mid-century modern interior design perspective. This Manhattan home renovation includes a living room, dining area, kitchen, bedroom with ensuite bathroom, home office, and library den. Each space is unified by clean architectural lines, warm natural materials, and a soft, airy color palette that brings a sense of calm and continuity throughout the home.

Light oak finishes and warm white cabinetry flow seamlessly from room to room, creating a timeless foundation. Subtle wallpaper textures, refined lighting, and custom millwork libraries add depth, character, and practical storage. A sleek glass wall separates the living area from the home office, allowing natural light to circulate freely while preserving openness—an ideal solution for modern New York City apartment living.

The Living Room

The living room is designed as an inviting and functional space for reading, relaxation, and everyday living, seamlessly blending comfort with style. A custom floor-to-ceiling library serves as a striking focal point, complemented by curated artwork and a sleek contemporary fireplace that adds warmth and visual harmony. Crafted to promote calm and reflection, this living room showcases the refined elegance of mid-century modern interior design in a Manhattan apartment.

The Westside Modernist Residence- Dining Room

The Dining Room
The dining area continues the home’s understated luxury with statement lighting, custom cabinetry, and a sophisticated material palette. Blue tones appear through upholstered seating or curated decor, linking the space to the client’s aesthetic and creating a cohesive flow throughout the residence. Perfect for intimate dinners or larger gatherings, the room radiates refined Upper East Side elegance.

To maintain openness while defining function, I integrated a glass wall partition between the dining room and the home office. This elegant architectural feature creates a modern, airy environment where all spaces remain visually connected. Floor-to-ceiling drapery flanking the glass provides flexibility—offering privacy and coziness when desired while preserving the home’s luminous flow.

Designed to be both chic and flexible, the home office balances productivity with adaptability. The Kitchen

Despite structural challenges, including a column positioned within the island, the kitchen was carefully redesigned as a modern kosher kitchen. Two-tone cabinetry in light oak and satin white offers generous storage while keeping the space bright and balanced. Double dishwashers enhance everyday functionality, while Calacatta Gold quartz countertops bring subtle movement and sophistication to both the island and perimeter surfaces.

A dedicated coffee nook adds a layer of comfort and daily indulgence. The island is crowned by the Queen pendant lamp from the Marie Burgos Collection, whose rust and gold finishes introduce warmth and sculptural interest, making the kitchen a true centerpiece of this luxury apartment renovation in New York City.

The combination of warm wood tones and sculptural lines creates an inviting and refined space suited for reading, leisure, or focused work. Thoughtful detailing ensures the den feels connected to the rest of the home while maintaining its own identity.

The Bedroom
The bedroom is a calm, serene retreat inspired by coastal elegance. An airy color palette is enhanced by classic white wainscoting and light blue wallpaper, creating a soft, timeless backdrop. A rattan headboard and bed introduce warmth and texture, while curvy white nightstands with brass details add a touch of refinement. Brass wall sconces provide soft, ambient lighting, and a curvy light tan leather Eames recliner completes the space, offering both comfort and iconic design.

The Westside Modernist Residence- Bathroom

The Bathroom

The ensuite bathroom was designed to feel modern yet full of character. Clean lines, refined materials, and thoughtful details elevate the space, creating a balanced environment that combines practicality with understated elegance. The result is a bathroom that feels both functional and serene, aligned with the overall design of the home.

Together, these spaces form a sophisticated Upper West Side home—carefully tailored, deeply personal, and elevated by timeless design.
