The Glamorous look of Black and White Room Designs!

Black and White living room

The use of Black and White in design can create a stunning and dramatic decor.

There's a rule in decorating that says that "every room can use a touch of black." You might think this is strange if you have a room of pastels or jewel tones.  But using the color black adds a focal point of color that grounds, anchors, and adds a sophisticated look to a room.

Black in accessories, light fixtures, trims, paint, or in one bold piece of furniture will help to catch the eye and sharpen any decorating scheme. It will serve as an outline that sets off specific areas or objects. Black by itself is striking!

But to get real drama and spark, pair black with white.

The use of black and white in design gives a fresh, clean, and unquestionably sophisticated and elegant look to any room.

If you're afraid of using just black and white, add variety by adding areas of yellow, pink, camel, red, turquoise or purple for a striking look. Keeping black and white prominent, however, preserves the elegant effect.

Here are examples of stunning rooms designed with a Black and White theme.

Swedish Interior Design Style

"Gustavian inspired, Swedish interior design is light and sophisticated."

A bit of history....

Sweedish Interior Design style is characterized by a look that is light, airy and elegant. Whether classic in emphasis, country or contemporary in direction, this style underscores an elegant and refreshing atmosphere.

Despite originating centuries ago, the Swedish Gustavian style is a look that is still popular today. It usually features white painted, neo-classical furnishings – often displaying the patina of age – set against a very light, interior background.

Gustavian style is named for King Gustav III who ruled Sweden in the late 18th century. He had a passion for the neo-classical styles prominent at that time in continental Europe – such as the Louis XVI style in France, for example. Gustav combined elements of these styles in his own royal palaces in Sweden. (I must say the man had good taste.)

Over time, the Gustavian interpretation of a neo-classical interior spread throughout the broader Swedish society and has been recognized as a distinct interior style in its own right.

Gustavian style is versatile enough to feature classical and contemporary elements together and still look great! With that said, there are some style fundamentals to follow.

Creating the look ....

If you are going for the Swedish interior look I have one word for you – white! Okay, maybe not literally everything white – that might get pretty boring. But keeping the supporting hues light is really important. Very soft blues, grays and greens are typical of this style, but the overall finished look should be very light and airy.

For a Gustavian inspired interior, choose white painted furniture that features a classic silhouette. Time worn or distressed edges will further emphasize the look and is a very desirable attribute. Wall moldings and furniture with raised detail will add greater visual interest in this largely white environment.

A touch of gold gilding is important as an accent. Hints of it can be brought in through the raised details of furnishings and by your choice of lighting elements, picture and mirror framing, for example.

picture-55

Your walls and trim should be painted white (or a very soft gray, blue or green). Alternately, you might choose a wallpaper pattern. If you go with wallpaper, consider a neo-classic style with a very open and subdued pattern in soft colors on a white background. A common Swedish design motif is floral swags with ribbons and bows.

When it comes to floors, wood looks best with a Swedish interior design style. Consider layering your wood floor with woven rugs or runners to enhance the Swedish aura.

Now let’s talk windows. If you have attractive window moldings you might not want to use draperies at all but perhaps opt for simple sheers or fabric blinds like inside-mounted roman shades. If you choose draperies instead, try something that doesn't not contrast too sharply with the light colored walls. Your window treatment should complement the subtle yet sophisticated overall effect.

Consider natural fabrics for your Swedish interior design style. Linen, cotton and silk are some possibilities.

Finally, add a bit of bling to your look in the form of crystal lighting. This could be a classic, crystal chandelier (it’s been said that every Gustavian interior has one) or similar wall sconces, for example. The crystals will reflect the light in the airy space and be the crown jewel of your inspired Swedish interior design.

Style Tips:

- Soft blue and white is a common Swedish color scheme. Consider accenting your interior with classic, blue and white porcelain pieces. Also, pastels mixed with white  create a very Gustavian look.

- For a distinctive Swedish look in your bedroom of royal repose, install a half-moon shaped corona with an attached, sheer canopy over the head of the bed. It’s classic Gustavian!

- Round out your look with that distinctive piece of Swedish furniture – a painted, curvaceous, floor clock.

Feng Shui Money Tips: The colors of prosperity!

colors-wealth.png

Accent your money areas with the colors green, red or purple.

Green symbolizes vitality and growth

Red brings energy and power

Purple is the best color for wealth.

Gold signifies luxury. Donald Trump uses a lot of gold for his properties.

You can place a big chunk of purple amethyst in your wealth area and have décor accents in those colors.

You can use these colors on your window treatments, your soft furnishing, your accessories.  You don't have to use all those colors. You can just choose one. It is important to make the space pleasing to you and respect your design style.

You can also place a bowl of green and purple grapes (real or artificial) in the wealth area of your kitchen, to symbolize abundance filling your home. If you use real grapes, it's okay to eat them, just add more from time to time so the grapes remain fresh and the bowl is always more than half full.

Feng Shui Money Tips: Enhance your wealth area!

bowl-of-coin.png

Enhance your area with symbols of prosperity:

You can place a bowl of coins (add your loose change to it every day), a "lucky bamboo" plant, or anything that symbolizes success and prosperity to you.

There are lots of Chinese luck symbols available, but you don't have to use them unless you want to.

A picture of your dream house, or a model of that luxury car you long for, is an effective money symbol because it has personal meaning for you.

Feng Shui Money Tips: Check your Front door for wealth!

front-door.png

Your Front Door can Enhance Your Wealth

Is your front door hidden? Does your home or office face away from the street?

If your entrance cannot easily be seen from the street, opportunities and income have a harder time getting to you.

Invite chi to your front door by placing lights or moving objects or colors along the way. Your front door is the gateway to opportunities, so make sure the condition and appearance of the door are inviting and that doorknobs and hinges works smoothly.

Feng Shui Money Tips: De-clutter your wealth area!

declutter1.png

To enhance Your Wealth Area you need to:

Clear out any clutter from these important areas.

Clutter is a sign of stagnant energy, and clutter in your wealth areas can clog up your cash flow. Getting rid of clutter is one of the most powerful ways to shift the energy up.

Fix things that are broken

Anything that doesn't work as it should is a sign of something wrong in the area of your life that corresponds to that part of your space. It's time to do something about that loose doorknob, non-working light switch, stuck file drawer, or clock that doesn't keep correct time, to name just a few possible examples. Remove items like these from your wealth area or fix them so they work properly.

Feng Shui Money Tips: Find your wealth area!

bagua-wealth.png

Feng shui associates prosperity with the back left corner of any space. Stand at your front door facing into the house; your wealth area is at the back of the house on the left-hand side. There's also a wealth area within each room: facing in from the doorway, it's the corner area in the back of the room on the left-hand side.

Now that you've identified your wealth areas, there are some quick and easy ways to apply Feng shui to these spaces so you can generate good luck and attract more money.

Feng Shui Money Tips: Make affirmations!

my-wealth.png

Make a list of things that you desire or want to achieve. Doing this helps you clarify your intentions. So be bold! Take a notepad or open a new document on your computer and make a list of 108  things you want to do or have in your life (It sounds like a lot but it is a multiple of 9: the Feng Shui Lucky number). Each time you achieve one you should cross it off and send your thanks to God or the Universe.

Make affirmations of what you want or where you want to be like  though you are already there. Good examples are “My financial resources are increasing steadily every day”, “I always have what is necessary for my family”, “Money comes to me regularly and easily”, etc…

It is important to clarify your intentions to reach your objectives. Feng Shui will help you to do so.
