For years the elephant has been known as a sacred animal in the East. As the largest animal to walk the Earth, the elephant is known as a symbol of strength and power. It also represents perseverance, in that it is an extremely hard working animal. Some worship the elephant so much as to make it their national symbol, such as Thailand. Elephants are also seen as symbols of wisdom and dignity, because of their incredible intelligence and very long life span.
In the Eastern part of the Earth, the elephant used to carry royal figures and, therefore, became associated with royal status.
See how some designers have integrated this majestic animal in the world of design and in the comfort of interiors.
Above with this colorful exotic design by Molly Luetkemeyer. Great way to showcase your family culture!
I love this elephant stool… side table… sculpture! The original Eames Plywood Elephant was made in 1945, but was never produced for general distribution or sale. In 2007, an anniversary edition (for Charles Eames 100th birthday) was released in natural and red plywood, but was limited to 1000 of each color and cost $2007. Finally, there is a much more accessible version of this classic design. For 2008, Vitra has released a polypropylene version of the original Eames Plywood Elephant.
