BEFORE AND AFTER DINING ROOM THE BROOKLYN CLOCK TOWER RESIDENCE

BEFORE AND AFTER DINING ROOM THE BROOKLYN CLOCK TOWER RESIDENCE

Our latest project took place among the tallest four-sided clock towers in the world!  Constructed in a modernized Byzantine-Romanesque style, the building has been converted into luxury condominium apartments.

The W. Family contacted us as after they purchased their second apartment next door so they could join them and form one spacious residence.

As you will see below presented in the Before and After, the space's layout has been completely re-imagined and redesigned to fully optimize the flow and function of each space in the apartment.

The Dining Room

The Dining Room was previously a shared kids' bedroom, and is now an elegant Dining Room. The colorful, natural and textured wall coverings paired with a fabulous crystal chandelier brings a lot of glamour. The bronze sea urchin wall accents as well as the cowhide rug with metallic finish adds a chic unexpected element to the look. The piano contributes to create a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES THE ART COLLECTORS' HOME LIVING ROOM

BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES THE ART COLLECTORS' HOME LIVING ROOM

This home is the top floor of an 1900 Brownstone in the heart of Hoboken NJ. We kept the brownstone charm with beautiful crown moldings, high ceilings and furnishing and paired it with very modern elements.
We transformed it into a modern apartment for a young energetic couple who collect art pieces throughout their travels. They wanted to integrate most of their personal art collection and to make the apartment as modern and high tech as possible while keeping the classic brownstone flair.
The art collection is present throughout the entire space in the form of paintings, objects, memorabilia but also furnishing.

How we did it?

Those are some of the main pieces that helped us transformed this raw place into a high-end modern living-room.

-The Charcoal Walnut hardwood flooring upgrades the look of the living room. It provides a rich warm tone to the space.

-The rug is art to the floor. Its unique abstract design stands out in the decor bringing texture and warmth.

-The custom-made cabinetry in gray oak and glass showcases an eclectic art collection of curiosities and memorabilia. Making these built ins perfect conversational pieces!

-The French Fireplace mantel inspired by Louis XVI design in Carrara marble enhances the architecture of this classic brownstone room. A special highlight is added by a custom mosaic loop design in white & grey glass with variations of gold.

- The one of a kind Artwork is original and sets the tone with a vivid color.

-The elegant window treatment were custom-made. They frame the windows beautifully and add a soft layer to the space.

10 fabulous kitchen islands!

Today's kitchens are growing rapidly in size and many designers are adding kitchen islands along with the industrial appliances, state of the art cabinets and custom countertop designs that have gained recent popularity. The kitchen island has come a long way from the days of a single small table in the middle of the kitchen. Now, kitchen islands are often elaborated becoming fully equipped ‘kitchens within a kitchen', complete with sink, stovetop, and refrigerator. One of the most important benefits of the kitchen island is the additional work space, storage area and room for extra appliances that it provides.

Besides meal preparation, the kitchen can become a gathering area for family and friends if there is enough space. In many instances kitchen islands become central to the overall kitchen design and add a luxurious touch to your kitchen. Since so much happens in the kitchen on a regular basis, getting the layout right is important. The kitchen island can serve as an additional eating area, and food preparation can easily be done there. In a large kitchen, the kitchen island can shorten the distances within the working triangle (sink, refrigerator and range or cooktop) and make it more efficient.

Here are 10 amazing kitchen islands options for perfect kitchens!

Have you thought about Renovating Your Home?

Interior by Marie Burgos Design

Most people are uncertain of how to begin the restoration work of their homes and the magnitude of the task can easily overwhelm anyone. Here are some suggestions that will give you a fair picture of what it entails and make it less complicated for you.

The primary thing you should do is to decide what modifications are needed, and books and shops on interior decoration can greatly help you in this respect, as their displayed designs can help you choose the appropriate one for your home. Customers usually have a certain fancy for a classical European decor, for ‘green’ interiors adorned with furniture made of jute or cane and with indoor plants, or for delicately engraved woodwork and embroidered carpets that are a characteristic of Moroccan home design. You can also use Feng Shui techniques, which are considered to make positive energies flow through the spaces in your home and increase your levels of relaxation of mind.

When you have a fair idea of the type of modifications required, you should contact an interior designer to further develop your ideas. It is a misconception that hiring an interior designer is a needless expense. A majority of those who set out to do their own decor lack the essential skill, and often end up having to spend a lot more to get their faults corrected by professionals later. Thus, it is better to engage an interior designer at the very beginning of your renovation exercise.

Yet another baseless notion is that most types of interior design are extremely expensive for the common man. In reality, you can obtain the same decor as exhibited in any exclusive showroom at a much lower cost by using low-priced materials which expert designers can fetch for you from the market. However, the look that you choose must be such that it can be applied in every room, so that the entire home has uniformity in design.

It must not be forgotten that there are other aspects that contribute to a good decor apart from big items like furniture and walls. It is essential that linens, showpieces, drapes etc are chosen after much deliberation as well, as they will help you create a cosiness in your living space and also reflect your personal tastes to your guests.

Bedroom Design by Marie Burgos Design

Finally, do not lose your inspiration because of the enormity of the task ahead of you. If you have a good interior design specialist to assist you, it will be easy to create momentum and you will be able to finish without any hassle.

Beautiful Libraries and bookshelves designs!

picture-318

Bookshelves and Libraries are a wonderful place to display everything from collectibles and photographs to books and boxes.

If you happen to be a book lover or a voracious reader, it is likely that you have built up quite a collection of books over the years. Home libraries help you organize your book collection, make it easier to find books and make reading fun and relaxing within the comforts of your home. Here are a few tips to design your home library.

While building a home library the three basic elements required are: space, shelves and books. You can either custom build a new room or choose an existing spacious room to house your books.

Types of Bookshelves: Recessed or built-in bookshelves can provide floor-to-ceiling storage and space savings. You can also mount hanging bookshelves onto the wall or buy glass cases, which might be preferable if your collection includes antique books that you want to preserve. As your bookshelves creep up the wall, you may need a library ladder to reach them.

Library furniture: When considering library furniture, you may want desks if you are writing and taking notes on your reading. Bookstands are also helpful for reading those big volumes that are too heavy to hold up comfortably. You can include overstuffed couches and chairs which will beckon guests to spend a few hours reading.

Library Lighting: When selecting lighting, look for a lamp that will help you see the smallest text you read. The lamp should be positioned over your shoulder, so that the light is not directly in your eyes. This way it will also help to minimize glare. Your lamp should be brighter than the rest of the room. However, all light will eventually damage books, so use it at a minimum.

Library Organization: Finally, a good system of organization will help you find the book you want quickly. You can also decorate bookshelves with personal items, such as photographs and souvenirs which can break up the rows of books visually, and it would also give you room to expand as your collection grows.

Here are some Beautiful Library Design options:

There is a great trend towards diagonal bookshelves. Kelly Wearstler designed this built-in beauty in Viceroy in Santa Monica. Simple lines on a diagonal pattern create visual movement and a bold dark color puncuates this book case.

Red Interior designs!

Red is a vibrant and stimulating color that is believed to bring good fortune and happiness.

Red is a very bold color which sometimes intimidate people. They are not sure how to use it in design and are afraid it will look too much of a strong color.

It can actually really affect people moods, making shy people more courageous for example. It also brings passion and excitement to people’s life. Red can really make people feel empowered.

In Feng Shui, Red is a fire color that will bring new prospects ahead and enhance energies. It is also associated with the recognition and fame.

In design, I always recommend using red to bring warmth and comfort to a room. There are multitude shades of red so depending of the room and the habitants tastes  a cranberry red, an orange red, a burgundy red, just to cite a few, can be used.

Sometimes to create drama or warmth, you can paint an accent wall in red . You can also paint an entire room red as long as the furniture pieces of the room are in a more neutral color.

Also, red can be used for major pieces of furniture in the room to make a dramatic statement or bring sexiness to the room or Red can just be infused in a room through accessories or lighting.

Using too much red in a room where occupants don’t want to feel exited is not a good idea. For instance if your child has excess energy, it is not recommended to paint his bedroom in red.

Often red is used in dining rooms, Kitchens, and even restaurants. This is a great color to increase appetite.

Do you love horses? Would you like to incorporate your love of horses into your home decorating scheme without going overboard?

Horses are commanding animals to behold, and their likenesses certainly hold their own in home interiors. Each of the following spaces displays an element of equestrian style through the depiction of these majestic creatures in items such as pillows, prints, sculptures and paintings.

You can also select a classic piece of artwork with a horse related theme. For extra touches, look for horse printed afghans, throws, pillows, and prints. Even a nice coffee table book of horse photos can showcase your love for horses.

Whether you want to decorate an entire room, or simply add some subtle touches, horse lovers have many options for letting their love for horses show through their home's décor.

Sunshine in your interior design with yellow!

picture-171 Yellow is the color of sunlight, cheerful and uplifting. Yellow always lightens and brightens any space, as well as creates a cozy, welcoming feng shui feeling. From hot Sunflower Yellow, or Canary Yellow to pale Buttery tones, or even Mustard tones.

Yellow color is an excellent feng shui choice for the children rooms, as well as the family room.

Yellow is sunshine. It is a warm color that brings happiness and joy.

Although it can work as the primary color, yellow often works best as a companion to other colors. It creates a great accent color. Use bright yellow to create excitement when red or orange may be too strong or too dark. Yellow can be perky.

Yellow color wakes up the room like the rising sun.

Any dull, dark room with little sunlight will greatly benefit from a Yellow based feng shui scheme to compensate for the lack of light and bring the gentle warmth of the sun. Color researchers believe color Yellow to increase self-esteem and strengthen the overall well-being. So don't hold, use yellow!

Here are some wonderful interiors using Yellow.
