Choosing The Best Color for your Office Design!

Color research shows that people are stimulated in specific ways by different colors. Feng shui uses color as a cure to promote the appropriate energy for a space. That’s why it’s important to pick a color based on the tasks you will be performing in your office. I have put together a guide to help you choose the right color for your office in function of your needs:

Yellow

This color  stimulates clarity of thought, creativity, and mental activity–making it an excellent color for a home office. Yellow also promotes discipline, friendliness which anyone working in a home office needs.

Red

It represents the element of fire which symbolizes  life joy and energy. It’s a good choice for anyone making deals or selling, and for those who entertain clients in their office.

Black

This color is a very traditional feng shui color for an office because it represents money, power, and success, especially when paired with metals such as silver. If you need to feel empowered in your office and want to create energy to stimulate income, black is the way to go.

Purple

The color purple is a good choice as well, and this is the color that signifies ideals, truth and love. This is the color of choice for the thinkers and the philosophers, and the chosen color too for dreamers and writers.

Blue

This color suits offices where trust and calm is important, such as where interviews or sessions are held. Blue is the color of relaxation and peace, making it a great color for offices that are used for writing.

Oranges

Orange and other warm desert colors stimulate socialization and collaboration–good for a small office using a team approach to management. This color is especially harmonious in an office used for creative writing or team work.

White

In Feng Shui, white represents purity and confidence. Used with gold or silver, white creates a very calm atmosphere. This can be very beneficial to people that feel their office is a place to relax.

Your ceiling should be painted a light color–a dark color will make you feel as if there’s a dark cloud hanging over your head while you work.

With the right color office, you are now ready to make great deals and making your office a place of success that fulfill your work needs! Let me know if I can help!

Here are 10 fabulous Home office designs with different styles that all showcase different personalities and cover different needs.

DEFINING YOUR GOALS: is a great way to feel uplifted and motivated to work. I find that the easiest way to formulate my goals is to use visualization. You can make a collage  of the things you desire and display it in your office to give you inspiration or you can write a letter to the universe. Two years ago I wrote a description of my ideal job on a piece of red paper and hung it in the career area of my bedroom and now I am living it daily.

GETTING RID OF CLUTTER: is an essential step to apply as the problem with clutter is: “it leaves no room for growth!”

Often, the clutter in your office creates confusion in your mind. It adds negative emotions such as stress, moodiness, overwhelming feelings, exhaustion. It also affects deadlines, finances, your professional image, your time as things get lost or damaged…

The best approach for De-cluttering is define what you need, love or use and put systems in place. The rest needs to go!

USING COLOR. It is very important in the art of Feng Shui.   Offices and workspaces are often painted white but this color is not the most cheerful to work around.  In Feng Shui we define 2 types of colors. The Yin colors promote healing and relaxation such as black, blue, green, purple. And the yang colors are essential to provide enthusiasm and the positive energy required needed to do something or be motivated. The best colors associated to career are black for business, green for money, red to give a boost to all projects. Use color in your clothing, on the walls, for accessories, even for files and folders.

DISPLAYING INSPIRATIONAL VISUALS such as images of people that are your mentors, heroes, even your team if you need their support. Any images, even abstract art or landscape which represents achievement for you can work.

Modern Home Office

LOCATING YOUR DESK in the “Command Position”

This means that your desk needs to face the door and you should have a view on the overall space. Does your desk face the entrance?  If not, then you may be feeling vulnerable and nervous.  Try moving your desk around or adding a mirror that will allow you to see the door or entrance.  Having your back towards a window can also bring on feelings of insecurity.  Hang blinds or curtains to lessen this feeling.

STAYING UP TO DATE by using recent and well maintained equipment. You want to ensure that you get all the support you need and that your work is facilitated. Also, having the right tools helps keeping you stress level down, reach your deadlines and show professionalism.

LIGHTING UP is essential for a happy work environment.  Replace fluorescent bulbs with full spectrum bulbs.  If you’re unable to do this, then try bring in your own lighting with floor and desk lamps.

POTTING PLANTS help bring nature and air into an area.  Always work with an odd number of healthy plants. 9 is the ideal number. Remember to place a plant in your prosperity area (far left side of the room from the entrance) to help grow your finances.

USING WATER at the entrance of your workspace or office promotes peace in the room – this is why so many find it appealing to have one in their front yards.  Put a small fountain, a mirror or even a picture of water near your entrance to achieve this calming effect; a small fish tank is another option. But more than anything, water at the entrance supports your career as it  represents a flowing river bringing in new opportunities.

BRINGING YOUR PERSONALITY into your office. It is an essential ingredient to help you feel comfortable and raise your confidence. So display photos of people you love and that are supportive of you. Also put your stamp in by displaying items that identify you such as hobby items and memorabilia.

Kitchen Feng Shui Design Dos & Donts

picture-111 In most cultures, the kitchen is the heart of the home.

The kitchen brings the family together. This is where the family gather to catch up on the news of the day, where kids do their homework on kitchen table, where a close neighbor will drop by for a chat. Also cooking can be a space for real celebration for holiday preparations with the family and friends.

The kitchen represents the health and wellness of a family. Food prepared in the The kitchen nourishes us, and the kitchen also provides a place for nurturing family connections

The kitchens also represent a family’s prosperity. The Chinese relate the nourishing power of the stove to the ability of family members to earn money.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in a house.

The kitchen is dominated by the elements of Fire and Water. Those elements are incompatible so it is important to take care of positioning of your appliances, color of your walls and backsplash as well as keeping any clutter under control.

Here are some great Feng Shui tips to help you design the best kitchen for great health and abundance.

Dos

1- Cook in the “Command Position”. This means from a place where you can see the front door and be in the control of your kitchen space. Ideally when standing at your stove you should see people coming in the kitchen. If you don’t, install a reflective surface such as a shiny backsplash above your stove.

2- Have your kitchen design based on a traditional triangle model, with the sink, refrigerator and range making up each point of the triangle. There should be a 6- to 8- foot distance between each appliance. This allows for maximum convenience and a minimum of repeated moves.

3- Take good care of your stove by keeping it clean and in perfect working condition. It represents wealth.  And using all the burners helps attract money from multiple sources.

4- Keep the refrigerator and freezer full of healthy food to demonstrate the prosperity of your home. And place a bowl of fresh fruits on the kitchen table is a symbol of good health and vitality.

5- Consider incorporating the color green or some greenery into your kitchen scheme. Fresh flowers and plants bring the message of vitality and life to a kitchen, which is not only esthetically pleasing but symbolically beneficial as well.

Donts

1- Paint your kitchen with red, pink or purple. These are "fire" colors, and can portend arguments, so if you and your spouse tend to fight in the kitchen, see if the wall or floor color might have something to do with this.

2- Keep too many utensils on your kitchen countertops so that the Chi can flow freely and nourish your home.

3- Keep out of date cans, package goods, preserves in your cabinets and food from your refrigerator that has been there too long. It reduces the energy level of your home and affects health.

4- Clutter your kitchen with utensils and small appliances. Keep those out of sight. Having all outside on your countertops disrupt the chi flow making it slower and lethargic.

5- Keep broken appliances even if it means living without a toaster at all for a while, it's better to have no toaster than one that doesn't work very well.

Dining Room Feng Shui Design Dos & Donts

picture-81 The dining room is the place where you entertain your friends and family and enjoy good food and conversation. Having regular family meals is a great way to tighten family  relationship and promote good communication. The Chinese community believes that eating feeds the spirit as well as the physical body.

It is important to create an inviting and clutter free room.

The basic aim of a dining room is to provide an intimate setting for a social gathering among friends and family. When it comes to Feng Shui dining room, the dining room should provide an environment free of distraction to strengthen the aspects of your life including family and health. The Yin personalities must interact with Yang personalities in a Feng Shui dining room. Implement decorations that appeal to you and your family’s taste and of course, are welcoming for your guests.

Here are some great Feng Shui tips to make your dining room a beautiful family gathering space.

Dos

1- Weather you own a round, oval, square or rectangular table, Make sure that the dining table you choose doesn’t have any hard edged corners.

2- Use an even number of chairs. This is preferable for Feng Shui dining room. This is because the person sitting in the odd position will feel left out and unwanted. The chair should be very comfortable and should have a back. Since you are the host, you should never have your back to a door.

3- Use warm rather than cool colors for your dining room décor. Shades of red, orange, burgundy, yellow, brown and cream are more conducive to the nourishing and enjoyable experience of eating than are cool shades of grey, blue and green.

4- Adorn the buffet or sideboard with fresh flowers or fruits to bring abundance in all areas of your life.

5- Display a mirror on the wall over the buffet or sideboard, reflecting the table. They  double the food on the table, symbolizing wealth and abundance for the household. Mirrors are excellent energy expanders. They enhance the healthy chi energy produced by the food.

Donts

1- Have too many furniture. The room should not be cramped. People must be able to circulate easily around the dining table. This takes out on the comfort needed to create a nice gathering of people.

2- Display too many accessories. Those are distractive of the main activity of the dining room which is enjoying a meal with friends and family

3- Display clocks and calendars so none of the time pressures from the day carry over into the meal.

4- Use broken, chipped or cracked dishes or glasses. The dishes you serve your food in can also increase your prosperity and abundance. Ornate or expensive looking dishes carry wealth luck. Chinese or Asian dishes with fish designs or other wealth related designs also improve your wealth energy.

5- Keep old, tarnished silverware, torn napkins and discolored placemats

3 Important Feng Shui Tips To Bring In More Money

picture-5 Tips 1 Money is something everyone needs and wants. Besides using hard work, here are some feng shui tips to remember to generate more money. The first thing to remember is that there are financial power spots in your office, living room, bedroom and kitchen. These spots are found in the corner of the back left hand side of the room, when facing in from the doorway. Once you know the financial power spots of the office, you have to keep these areas clutter free. This is because clutter always symbolizes stagnant energy. And this clutter in your power spots will only clog your cash flow. On clearing these spots, you shift these power spots to a higher spot.

According to feng shui things that are broken have to be fixed as things that don’t work indicate that something is wrong in your life. So look for things like switches that don’t work, file drawers that don’t repair or clocks that don’t give the right time. Either remove these things, or repair them so that they work. In place of these non-working things, place symbols of prosperity in your power spots like bowl of coins or a lucky bamboo plant for more prosperity in life. Even pictures of your dream house or car can be placed here as these are effective money symbols that have some special meaning for you.

Tips 2 Color is an important part of feng shui, and in making more money through feng shui. This is why it is advised to accent all money areas in your house with the colors green and purple. Green is the color for vitality and growth while purple is the color for wealth. One feng shui suggestion for this is to place purple and green grapes in a bowl in the wealth area of the kitchen. These grapes can be real or artificial; however if you use real ones and eat them, make sure you replenish the grapes and that the bowl is always more than half full.

Handling money with care is an important part of feng shui. Many people are of the habit of jamming money in wallets or money dips or to keep them crumpled in the pocket. This is not at all a sign of showing respect to money; instead clear your purse and wallet of its clutter and start saving money in them with care. This is because feng shui says that if you start neglecting money, money slowly starts neglecting you. Make it a point to balance your checkbooks and to pay bills punctually and to store your checkbook in attractive purple, black, blue, red or green covers. Place this cover in the back left corner of your desk, its wealth area or in the wealth area of your office.

Tips 3 Feng shui does not mean only the right placement of things for prosperity, but it also means the development of the right attitude in life. According to feng shui, you can make more wealth once you learn to live generously. This is because money is a type of energy that has to be made to not only into your life, but also to flow through your life. If you don’t have money to share, you can always give your time, appreciation and compassion to others for greater abundance in life.

Remember that little drops make a great ocean. So everyday, you have to spend a few minutes in the evenings, thinking of all the good things in life and thus show your gratitude for being lucky to receive all these things. It is not always getting or having something right that is important; it is learning to focus on the positive side of things in life that is important. The more you learn to notice, appreciate and show gratitude for whatever you receive, the more good things and money, you can expect to come your way. This is because prosperity in life is not always determined by the amount of money you have with yourself. It is also dependant on how you learn to enjoy whatever you have in life.

If you realize how rich you are with so many friends and your family, how fortunate that you can laugh, how fortunate you are to breathe in fresh and free air and realize the richness of your spiritual life; you will pretty soon receive material blessings and prosperity in your life.

Feng Shui Your Way to Wealth

picture-26 Good Feng Shui, affirm the Masters, does not bring you wealth if you do not strive for it, but it gives you the necessary support to seek fame and fortune. It helps you create an environment, both at home and in the business, that will strengthen you and attract the energies to manifest your wealth.  Did you know that many Asian millionaires do not sell the places where they lived or worked (if owning the business) while becoming wealthy? Knowing the power of the space, they keep them for luck. ——– Feng Shui Wealth Tips

Do you know where your financial “power spots” are? The contemporary methods of feng shui associate prosperity issues with the back left corner of any space. Stand at your front door facing into the house; your wealth area is at the back of the house on the left-hand side. There’s also a wealth area within each room: facing in from the doorway, it’s the corner area in the back of the room on the left-hand side. Where are the wealth areas within your office, living room, kitchen, and bedroom? Now that you’ve identified your money power spots, here are some quick and easy ways to apply feng shui to these spaces:

1. Clear out any clutter from these important areas. Clutter is a sign of stagnant energy, and clutter in your money power spots can clog up your cash flow. Getting rid of clutter is one of the most powerful ways to shift the energy of your power spots into high gear.

2. Fix things that are broken. Anything that doesn’t work as it should is a sign of something wrong in the area of your life that corresponds to that part of your space. Examine each of your money power spots to look for anything that needs repair. It’s time to do something about that loose doorknob, non-working light switch, stuck file drawer, or clock that doesn’t keep correct time, to name just a few possible examples. Remove items like these from your power spots or fix them so they work properly.

3. Enhance your power spots with symbols of prosperity, such as a bowl of coins (add your loose change to it every day), a “lucky bamboo” plant, or anything that symbolizes success and prosperity to you. There are lots of Chinese luck symbols available, but you don’t have to use them unless you want to. A picture of your dream house, or a model of that luxury car you long for, is an effective money symbol because it has personal meaning for you.

4. Accent your money areas with the colors green and purple. Green symbolizes vitality and growth, and purple is the color of wealth. Place a bowl of green and purple grapes (real or artificial) in the wealth area of your kitchen, to symbolize abundance filling your home. If you use real grapes, it’s okay to eat them, just add more from time to time so the grapes remain fresh and the bowl is always more than half full.

5. Pay attention to how you handle money every day. Do you keep paper money neatly sorted in your wallet or money clip, or is it jammed in there any old way, or crumpled up at the bottom of your pocket? Clean the clutter out of your purse and wallet, and start handling your money as though you value it.

6. If you neglect your money, it will neglect you, so be sure to balance your checkbook regularly and pay your bills on time. Put your checkbook in an attractive cover (choose green, purple, red, blue, or black) and keep it in the wealth area of your desk – that’s the rear left corner again — or in the wealth area of your office.

7. Live generously. Money is a form of energy, and it needs to flow through your life, not just into it. Hoarding and scrimping work against more coming in, while giving generously within your means makes space for even greater abundance. If you don’t yet have ample money to share, give as generously as you can of your time, energy, compassion, and appreciation.

8. Take a few moments every evening to think about all the good things that happened to you today and to express your gratitude for what you have received. Small things count, too, so it’s okay if there’s little of the spectacular on your list most of the time. It’s not what happened that’s important; it’s getting in the habit of focusing on the positive side of things every day that matters. The more you notice, appreciate, and express gratitude for blessings received, no matter how small, the more good things will come your way, including money.

A true experience of prosperity is determined not by how much money you have, but by how well you notice and enjoy what is already present in your life. The formal name for the wealth area is “fortunate blessings” – as you de-clutter, repair, and accessorize your money power spots keep this broader meaning in mind. When you celebrate being rich in friends and family, or rich with laughter, or the richness of your spiritual life, or even being rich in air and sunshine if nothing else seems to be going well for you today, material blessings will come to you more readily as well.

Can Feng Shui improve your performance at work?

picture-31 You’ve probably heard about how Feng Shui can create harmony and balance in your home, but can it improve your performance at work too? While the ancient Chinese philosophers who developed the practice of Feng Shui thousands of years ago didn’t have the average corporate employee in mind, the concepts of yin and yang and the flow of positive energy can be applied to any environment.

Today companies hire Feng Shui experts for architectural design, interior design, and landscaping. If you’re lucky enough to work for such a company, you may already be reaping the benefits of Feng Shui. But what if you’re stuck working in an old, dark building that hasn’t been updated in twenty years? Don’t worry because in both scenarios, what’s most important is your own personal work space. And that’s usually a place you can improve.

The principles of Feng Shui can be applied to work. Ask yourself the following questions about your office or work space. If the answer to any of them is “no”, find a way to fix it.

1. Is it clean?

2. Is it uncluttered?

3. Is it filled with things you enjoy?

4. Is there enough light or better yet, natural light?

5. Is it welcoming to visitors?

Keeping your office clean and uncluttered makes concentration easier. If you have an unobstructed path in and out of your office for yourself and for your visitors, energy will flow in and out easily—that includes new ideas. If you fill your space with things you love (photos, favorite coffee mug, motivational sayings, etc), your time working will be more pleasurable. If you’re lucky enough to have natural light through a window, that’s energizing. If you don’t, make sure you do have enough light and perhaps bring in your own desk lamp instead of relying on fluorescent lighting all day. Plants naturally take out bad carbon dioxide and replace it with oxygen.

Lastly, make sure you move your own energy around during the day by getting up to stretch, going outside, walking around or visiting colleagues.

Feng Shui Your Finances

picture-7 When the stock market, your 401K, the value of your home all sink into an abyss, perhaps you should say, "Feng Shui it!" File this one under "it couldn't hurt" and know you're attempting what some of the rich and famous have already embraced to some degree. Madonna and Boy George for a start, but you expected that. How about Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City to name a few?

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese philosophy to create harmony in your surroundings. The words literally mean wind and water and these two control "chi" which is the breath of life. Balancing chi is a good thing, not only good for your health, but also your wealth. Got your attention?

#1-Place a mirror at the entrance of your home to pull in chi for opportunity for those who live there. If you have stairs flowing straight to the front door, your money leaves very quickly. Slow this down with pictures along the wall and plants at the bottom of the steps.

#2-Keep your kitchen clean and uncluttered. If you can set up the stove so the cook can see the door. If the stove is already in place, put a mirror behind the stove. That way four burners become eight for multiplication of wealth.

#3-Repair all leaks in the kitchen and bathrooms to prevent money from going down the drain. By the same logic, and males family members take note, keep the toilet lid down to prevent money from being flushed away.

#4-Use the colors purple, red and green to support prosperity energy. Enhance this energy with the placement of a still life of a mountain and water.

#5-Pull that old lava lamp out of storage or purchase a new one. The undulating motions, or for that matter anything electronic or moving, help keep money circulating in your life.

#6-Get a fountain and/or goldfish. These represent the flowing of money to you.

#7-Display symbols of wealth around your home. Money and gold objects, even coins will do. If you can locate one, put out a gold Chinese Money Frog. This is a three-legged statue of a frog or toad with a coin in its mouth.

#8-Frame and hang up a picture of a million dollar bill. You can get a fake one online and that's okay. The symbol, even "Monopoly" game money provides visual reference for circulating prosperity.

#9-Also, cut out pictures of luxury items from magazines. Try a Porsche, an amazing country house, and a yacht. These represent the aspiration of "having it all" and are magnets for positive energy.

#10-Put a jade plant on the table. The jade plant is the Chinese version of a money tree.

Some things you may not be able to change. If you can, put your home office, in theory where you make money, in the southeast corner of your house. If that's not possible, put money or a symbol of money on the southeast corner of your desk. If possible, position your desk to see the door and a view of the outside. A desk with rounded corners is best. Make sure the chair backs up against a solid wall. You don't need Feng Shui to get that one. When it comes to money these days, watch your back.

Applying Feng Shui in Retail Environments

picture-31 If you are serious about your retail business succeeding, I strongly recommend hiring a qualified Feng Shui Consultant. The tips I offer here are helpful, but each situation has unique factors that someone with a trained eye and knowledge can help you find the right solution for. But here are some things you can try now:

Become Your Customer

The best exercise to perform when evaluating your retail space from a feng shui perspective is to pretend that you are a customer. Walk out of your establishment, get a cup of coffee, or have a brisk walk away from your business. Clear your head. On your return, look at your space from the point of view of never having seen it before. Have a pen and a piece of paper handy. Jot down your answers to these questions:

How does it feel when you approach your establishment?

How does it feel when you enter?

Is it inviting?

What was your first impression?

The main thing you are looking to find to apply feng shui in retail are obvious issues such as clutter, bad placement of signs, or poor display of your products. Maybe you notice where you need some paint touch up or small repairs.

That is a good place to start. Do this when you feel business is slipping. That is a sign something is "stuck" in your store.

Lighting:

The other thing to keep in mind is lighting. You want people to see your products clearly, and you want the light to cast a favorable glow. Having good light will increase the energy of your store. It will also require you to keep your merchandise clean; the light will show off flaws as well as benefits!

The exception to this recommendation is regarding certain restaurants that wish to create an atmosphere with dim, romantic lighting.

One other recommendation is to apply scent and music to improve the environment. Be sure the music is appropriate for the clientele and don't overdo it on the scents. Subtle but pleasant is the right approach.

Once you've got all the customer's senses working for you, applying feng shui in retail environments is a snap. Just make certain the space is beautiful, nothing jars, there's room to move about, and your products are displayed attractively.
